Esalen® Massage

The Esalen® Massage 100-hour Certification Course offers a comprehensive training for bodyworkers who wish to add the Esalen® philosophy and signature approach to their professional repertoire. Renowned for its innovative and fluid style, Esalen® Massage was developed in concert with pioneers of the “human potential movement” as a language of touch that responded to the needs of the individual rather than a set sequence. Often referred to as the Tai Chi of massage, this experiential approach to bodywork utilizes the principles of structure, balance, movement, and grounding to create a therapeutic “dance” between practitioner and client. With the use of oil students will learn the trademark Esalen® “long stroke” as a foundation to integrate a wide range of techniques. Esalen® Massage is an approach of listening, responding, flowing, and pausing that acknowledges the intimate relationship between the physical, emotional, and spiritual body as a whole. Our hope is to provide a classroom that fosters creativity and an approach that will not only enhance but inspire the current bodywork practice.

All students will receive credit for the 100 hours of coursework if completed successfully. CMTs and LMTs who wish to advertise themselves as “Esalen Massage practitioner” must register with the Esalen Massage and Bodywork Association (EMBA). Upon successful completion of all coursework and 15 practice sessions, students may elect to pay an additional $150 fee to be issued an Esalen Massage Practitioner certificate by EMBA. The fee includes one year of membership in EMBA, a practitioner listing on massage.esalen.org, and other resources.
