Touch & Trauma

Trauma can be described as a physiological and neurological imprint into the autonomic nervous system, and thus it manifests itself through bodily symptoms of anxiety, hypervigilance, agitation, and numbing. It leaves the person in a perpetual state of feeling less able to relax, less able to feel safe, or even able to feel much at all.

Trauma informed massage can be very useful in helping a person relearn how to be in their body as a safe, calm, and peaceful place. In this 24-hour class you will learn how to talk about trauma with a client, preform specific subtle touch techniques designed to “re-regulate” the autonomic nervous system (ANS), and learn methods of modifying your own style/modalities of massage to adjust to a client’s individual needs for safety, control, and healing.

Much of the work in this class is about the importance of therapeutic presence, attunement to the subtle shifts in a clients ANS, and engaging clients in a more cooperative style of massage. So whether you work with clients with trauma, chronic anxiety, or even just daily stress, this class will give you the tools to refine who you are as a therapist and how you show up for clients, no matter what modalities you do.
